A lot of us live very busy lives that requires us to travel a lot and this means we would have to spend a lot of our
time in hotels and/or shortlets (but we are focusing on hotels in this blog). It is true that when we book hotels,
we book to lodge for a few days only and it also doesn't help that we are some times in a rush. Regardless of
these facts, there are 5 tips that we should always keep in mind before we book a room in any hotel at all.
1. Reviews
Make sure you read customer's reviews before you make the decision to book a room. Read reviews dropped
by their customers on their websites, social media pages, and also google, and if you notice that the reviews
are consistent with the customers praising mostly the same things and complaining about mostly the same
things then you will be abe to make a better informed decision because you know what you are getting
yourself into. Remember to drop a review too after your own experience, you will help other people make
good decisions too.
2. Amenities
The rule of thumb is to never assume an hotel has a particular amenity without confirming it first no matter
how obvious it seems like to you. For example, you might think housekeeping is a standard amenity that every
hotel should have but some hotels charge extra just to clean you room. Most people prefer hotels that can go
the extra mile to offer great amenities at no extra charge. Some hotels for instance offer Apple TVs in their
rooms at no extra charge.
If an hotel does not have the amenities you want listed on their website, it is best to call them and ask.
Don't assume!
3. Free Breakfast
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so imagine having it for free. When looking for a hotel to
lodge, be deliberate about looking for one that offers free breakfast as this woukd save you money and time.
With this type of free service, you have the luxury to decide to wake up late, roll out of bed, brush your teeth
and then just go downstairs to have your breakfast without even leaving the hotel.
4. Location
Confirm the location of the hotel you intend to stay before you make that booking. Make sure the locvation is
safe and practical. Some hotels make claims on their websites that they are a walking distance to this
attraction and to that attraction but when you get there you would realsie that what they actually meant was
that you would have to walk for a distance of 2 hours before you get to the advertised attraction or choose the
option of spending your time in traffic when you decide to take a cab. Don't rely too much much on how the
hotel decribes their location on their website, put their address on Google Maps instaed and see what is
around the area.
5. Hidden Fees
It is very imporatnt to pay attention to hidden fees before booking an hotel and also while making payment. If
you are not careful, these unplanned fees can frustrate you and cut deep in your pocket. Imagine trying to
check out of a hotel and then you are given a hefty bill that was not planned for, it might be quite
embarassing and inconvenient to start going back and forth with them. It is therefore imporatnt you do your
homework thoroughly.
